about us
Well, hi there.
Thanks for wanting to know more about us. Jenn here. We’re a super fun couple who love to travel, meet interesting people and nosh on some good food and beverages.
Skillet came to be when we were flying back from Keith’s birthday trip to a day-long croissant class at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. We were sharing how much fun the trip was, but how much effort went into actually finding the class.
I had searched extensively using all the phrases one can think of to use when searching for cooking classes in Paris. And the pickings were slim.
And then it hit me. Le Cordon Bleu. I went to their site and there were so many classes offered!
But why couldn’t I find them?
This was a problem we needed solved. We had been enjoying culinary excursions for years from winery tours and brewery tours to distillery tours, cooking classes, baking classes, mixology classes, you name it. And they were always so difficult to find.
We spoke to family, our former cooking class instructors, friends in the culinary business, the people sitting next to us at the bar (we’re bar sitters in case you hadn’t guessed!), complete strangers we found on the internet who offered cooking classes and were nice enough to give us a few minutes…they all said the same thing, “Yes, we need this.”
Yay – good idea! And then the hard part. Bringing the vision to life.
Skillet took us over a year to build. We hit some speed bumps for sure, but never lost sight of our vision.
Our values
Inclusivity
Cultural Appreciation
No one should ever be hungry.
We can all learn something from each other if we simply listen.
Oh and cats. Cats rock.
Hi, I'm Keith.
I have been in the hospitality industry for most of my career. As a brewer in brewpubs and craft breweries, I spent countless hours fine-tuning my taste buds as I developed new beer recipes. (There could have been worse jobs!) I even made all the beer for our wedding.
I honed my skill in pairing my creations with specialty menus for beer dinners and special events. I brought this passion and experience back to the kitchen and made cooking creative and delicious dishes my obsession.
During our travels, we’ll take classes, buy unique ingredients and spice blends in the markets and do our best to order meals prepared with locally-sourced ingredients.
These experiences stay with me when I return home and new recipes are born which is why I call my cooking style “Culturally Inspired.”
I am ServSafe certified and offer cooking and baking classes for people who want to learn how to make flavorful dishes and desserts that are beyond the basics, yet still approachable; meals that have an international flair but aren’t intimidating.
If you don’t find me in front of the stove or cooking for a client, I’m taking cooking classes myself because there’s always something to learn.
I’m excited to bring my reviews, recipes and best-kept secrets to Skillet. My goal is to help our Guests find cooking class experiences that are fun and memorable.
And I'm Jenn.
As a career instructional designer and trainer with a degree in Marketing, I have developed and taught live and virtual classes for over 15 years, as well as created live, virtual-instructor-led and on-demand courses in topics including social media, sales, advanced internet search strategies, leadership and more.
I’m also a writer who has the enviable job of taste-testing all of Keith’s creations.
My role at Skillet is to oversee our marketing and tech, write our reviews and articles, and to help Instructors use the Skillet platform to the fullest. Let’s get those 5 star reviews rolling in.
