It’s time for a Dumpling Party!

Chef Patty and Chef Marco have run the longest-running Dumpling Party for 10 years! The event takes place at the historic Windsor Inn Guest House, Cambridge, Mass, the oldest free-standing home in the Central Square area. Don’t worry, even the ghosts love dumplings! 👻

🥟 First, we have the “Nosh”, where we taste from a selection of Patty’s favorite seasonal street foods including, but not limited to baozi, dumplings, Asian salads, etc. The first skillets focus in on how to roll out our wrappers. We’ll practice with scallion pie dough, and perfect our technique, before moving on to the real deal. We will also cook the dough on the griddle, as it is delicious! During this phase, we ask each student to tell us a little about their food history, where they may compete for free Patty Chen T-Shirts!

🥟 Next it’s time for rolling, stuffing and folding, and 3 distinct fillings: pork and ginger, pork soup dumplings, and vegan. Each round has a break for stuffing the students, too! We will cover 5 or 6 shapes that you can practice at home. If you haven’t tried soup dumplings, before, you are in for a treat!

🥟 Finally, the closing ceremony, where we encourage students to take home left-overs (if there are any!) Currently we offer the public class with pork filling and vegetarian filling. If you have gluten sensitivity, we do not offer gluten-free options, at this time. Please note, the two primary fillings are a group decision, as we only prep in large batches (10-15 portions) every 1-2 days. Previous alternate fillings have been beef, turkey, chicken or mushroom medley.

If you are booking a private event, we are happy to make class substitutions on the folding rounds.

🍶 Guests are welcome to BYOB.

About Patty and Marc: Patty Chen has been making dumplings since she was eight years old. When her family emigrated from Kaohsiung, Taiwan to the United States and opened their own restaurant, she met her future husband and business partner, Marc Shulman, at that restaurant. Historically, Patty and Marc have started multiple successful restaurants leading up to the now famous Dumpling Room.

In 1997, they opened the Taiwan Cafe. In 2001, it was the All Asia Bar. From there, the couple developed the School for Dumplings which led to the inevitable opening of Patty Chen’s Dumpling School in 2013. Patty and Marc put a twist on traditional dumpling houses by creating vegetable infused skins, various organic fillings and they bring their own unique personalities to the process! They are always working together to develop new and delicious creations.
